Resident Research
Resident Research is an integral part of OB/GYN residency training at LSUHSC New Orleans. Each aspect of a resident's project is overseen by the Resident Research Committee (RRC) Chairs, Drs. Tabitha Quebedeaux (MFM) and Tara Castellano (GYN ONC).
We appreciate the need for continued feedback throughout a demanding residency. Therefore, the goal of the RRC is to provide hands on guidance with: mentor selection based on a resident's interest, project design and methods, IRB submission, data analysis, abstract submission to outside meetings, presentation at Resident Research Day as a PGY3 and manuscript writing. In addition, residents are encouraged to include medical students on their teams to assist with project completion and to continue building leadership skills.
Residents have access to regular office hours reserved by RRC chairs as well as in-depth support from adjunct staff about project design and statistics. Residents are required to meet with RRC chairs on a biannual basis in preparation for semiannual meetings with the Resident Research Committee.
The expected timeline for Resident Research Completion is as follows:
- PGY1 - identify mentor and complete resident research tracker by Spring RRC check-in
- PGY 2 - IRB submission and Redcap database completion by Fall RRC check-in. Poster presentation of ongoing project at Resident Research Day in Spring
- PGY 3 - Present final project at Resident Research Day in Spring. Submit abstracts for outside conferences.
- PGY4 - Manuscript writing and submissions
Current projects cover a vast array of topics from General OB/GYN, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology and Urogynecology. We invite you to discuss your research ideas with us as you interview with our program.
