Residency and Fellowship Programs

 

Welcome to the LSU New Orleans OBGYN Residency Program!

Our department has the pleasure of training residents in obstetrics & gynecology, with the goal of developing competent physicians who can manage diverse and complex disease processes within our specialty. The care of our patients occurs in many different clinical learning environments and is always under the supervision of an attending physician. Our patient population, derived from the local inner-city population as well as the surrounding rural areas, provides for a broad spectrum of experiences that enable the educational needs of OBGYN training to be met.

The residency program has four distinct components:

1.  A diverse experience in obstetrics and gynecology, and all of its subspecialties, resulting in physicians capable of managing complex clinical situations in all the clinical learning environments;
2.  A primary health care focus: provided from exposure to ambulatory medicine and emergency medicine; supplemented with continuity clinics for each resident
3.  A comprehensive educational curriculum including weekly lecture series, journal clubs, simulation labs, and a variety of interdisciplinary conferences covering a range of educational topics;
4.  A dedication to the practice of evidenced-based medicine with a focus on patient-centered medical care. This also includes a focus on teaching medical students, resident colleagues, members of the healthcare team, and patients.

We are deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our department. This begins with recruitment, continues with mentorship, and is reflected by the current residents and faculty in the department. LSU OBGYN NOLA also identifies social justice and advocacy as a key part of our mission.

Finally, our program also places a focus on development of our residents as humans. Wellbeing of our trainees is important and we support time and effort to engage in activities that will result in a resilient physician who is able to care for self and others through this demanding residency.
