KYLA SMITH-THOMAS, MD
Medical School: University of Oklahoma School of Medicine
Undergrad: Emory University
Hometown: Oklahoma City, OK

"I am determined to improve maternal outcomes by providing culturally competent care, advocating for patients, and working to dismantle the systemic barriers that contribute to these inequities."

Dr. Kyla Smith-Thomas attended Emory University in Atlanta where she majored in Economics. She returned to her roots in Oklahoma for medical school. As a member of the Junior League of Oklahoma, an organization of women dedicated to improving the local community through volunteering and fundraising, she served as the ReMerge Project Coordinator. This special program assisted women in preparing for their GED tests, fostering a sense of empowerment and personal growth. Also serving children in the community, Kyla was a part of Reach Out and Read, a nationwide initiative that incorporates reading into medical visits while also educating parents on developmental health benefits of reading to children. Some of her most significant work has been as a member of AmeriCorps, serving in Atlanta and Kansas City.

To relax, Kyla enjoys playing board games and crocheting. She is a major advocate of Sketcher’s step in shoes!
