Bio
Dr. Lawicki is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Transfusion and Apheresis Services/Blood Bank and the coagulation and blood gas laboratories at University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also serves as medical director for the medical laboratories at LSU Lallie Kemp Medical Center and Riverside Medical Center. He is a member of AABB, College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathology, and American Society for Apheresis.
Research Interests
Transfusion practices in trauma, burn, coagulopathic, and sickle cell disease patients.
Patient blood management and proper laboratory utilization.
Coagulation testing and the diagnosis of coagulopathies.
Utility and effectiveness of apheresis procedures in the treatment of autoimmune and hematological diseases especially sickle cell disease.
Multidisciplinary diagnostic management teams particularly pathologist and laboratory involvement.
Teaching Activities
Oversees LSU Pathology resident education and rotations in blood bank/transfusion medicine and coagulation as well as assisting with general clinical pathology topics.
Oversees LSU and Tulane Heme/Onc fellow rotations in blood bank.
Medical director of UMCNO’s Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) medical technologist training program.
Presents transfusion medicine/coagulation topics for several other departments’ (surgery, anesthesia, heme/onc, medicine) grand rounds each year.
