The LSU Internal Medicine Residency in Baton Rouge

Residency Schedule

We employ a 4+2 block schedule for the duration of our residents’ training. Our General Medicine ward teams are populated via an on-call system with a night float resident that is designed to protect attendance at morning report, educational conferences, and teaching sessions led by clinical faculty.

 
Preliminary Intern Schedule
  • 10 blocks wards (~5 months)

  • 4 blocks clinic

  • 2-3 blocks subspecialty

  • 2 blocks rheumatology

  • 2 blocks elective

  • 3 weeks wards night float

  • 3 weeks vacation

Categorical Intern Schedule
  • 12 blocks wards (~6 months)

  • ​2 blocks ICU

  • 2-3 blocks clinic

  • 2-3 blocks subspecialty

  • ​2 blocks rheumatology

  • ​1 block ED

  • ​2 blocks elective

  • ​3 weeks wards night float

  • 3 weeks vacation

Categorical Resident Schedule
  • 4 blocks wards

  • 3 blocks ICU

  • 3-4 blocks clinics

  • 2 blocks elective

  • 2 weeks wards night float

  • 4 weeks vacation

  • Remaining weeks are subspecialty consult rotations
