Bio
Darren Barefield is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC). He received his B.S. from Northeast Louisiana University in Chemistry, and his M.D. from LSUHSC in Shreveport. Dr. Barefield completed his Internal Medicine residency at LSUHSC in Baton Rouge and a fellowship in Nephrology at LSUHSC in Shreveport. His clinical activities include attending the LSU Nephrology service at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He is also a board certified medical oncologist and staffs a medical oncology clinic for Our Lady of the Lake. Dr. Barefield has been a recipient of the LSUHSC Department of Medicine award for Teaching Excellence in the faculty category. His areas of clinical interest include Multiple Myeloma, HIV Associated Nephropathy, and disorders of hemostasis. Dr. Barefield has several publications focusing on hemodialysis and nitric oxide synthesis inhibitors, and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
