Letter from the Associate Dean
Welcome to our Medical Education website for Ochsner University Hospital and Clinics (OUHC) in Lafayette, Louisiana. I hope you take the time to navigate the site and explore the faculty, residents, and support staff, which we proudly have in our educational community.
We currently sponsor Graduate Medical Education Programs at both OUHC and Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center (OLGMC). Our home based programs include Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, a Sports Medicine Fellowship Program and a Geriatrics Fellowship Program. On a rotational basis from the New Orleans School of Medicine, we have residents from the following programs: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Otolaryngology, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Cardiology.
We also host the Rural Scholars Track for medical students from New Orleans where 3rd and 4th year students spend one day a week with a preceptor in the surrounding community for the entire two years they are in Lafayette. They also rotate on all of the required and elective rotations in Lafayette at either OUHC or OLGMC.
We strive to recruit new, innovative faculty while providing the support and resources to our current faculty. We work hard to enhance both patient care and the teaching of our residents and rotational students from New Orleans.
Throughout our growth and expansion with our affiiliate, LGMC, our mission has remained the same along with the dedication to GME and UME. Our current affiliation with OLGMC has expanded both the clinical opportunities, along with enhancing the exposure to state of the art technology. This affiliation has served as a synergy which promises to be fruitful for the foreseeable future.
I hope you continue to inquire about GME in Lafayette. Thank you for your interest in our programs.
Sincerely,
James B. Falterman, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.P
