Visiting Student Information

Ochsner University Hospital and Clinics is a comprehensive acute care facility with a range of medical services and specialty clinics, including an after-hours urgent care center. We are committed to serving both uninsured and under-insured populations, as well as those with private insurance. Medical students gain hands-on experience by participating in patient care and performing procedures under the supervision of our faculty and residents. Our program offers rotations within the LSU School of Medicine Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residency programs in Lafayette, providing valuable exposure to diverse clinical settings and enhancing their practical skills.

All visiting rotations must be processed through the VSLO website.
The catalog for the 2024/2025 Academic Year will be posted and opened on VSLO on October 1, 2024

Procedures for Applying as a Visiting Student

All visiting students must apply through the VSLO system.  We do not accept international students for visiting rotations.

Students are NOT to directly contact LSU Health OUHC faculty and administrative staff in an attempt to arrange clinical rotations. The UME Office is responsible for scheduling ALL elective requests. All students must follow the established guidelines and procedures without exception.

All students accepted are required to have professional liability insurance coverage of at least $1,000,000/$3,000,000. If this is not provided by the student's medical school, a supplemental policy must be obtained and proof of coverage is required before beginning the elective.

Visiting students are responsible for locating and securing their own transportation, housing and meals during elective rotations. We recommend that final housing and travel arrangements are deferred until requested rotations have received final approval.
