Program Mission and Aims

Mission:

Our Child Neurology Residency enables our graduates to become knowledgeable, culturally competent, caring physicians, who can function in evolving healthcare systems, engage in life -long learning, and appreciate and evaluate medical research. Our program enables residents to become skilled and knowledgeable in Child Neurology, and to respectfully assume the responsibilities of a practicing physician in an increasingly diverse community and nation. We prepare our residents to prioritize patient safety, to value interprofessional teamwork, and to improve healthcare quality for all. Our program is the largest Child Neurology group in the state and provides care for patients in the state of Louisiana as well as across the gulf coast community.

Aims:

We are fortunate that our institution aligns with our program to provide comprehensive pediatric healthcare which recognizes the special needs of children through excellence and continuous improvement of patient care, education, research, child advocacy and management. Education is the corner stone of our program and we in particular believe it is very important that our residents are able to attend regional and national conferences. We are fortunate, due to the smaller size of our program, that all of our residents receive opportunities to attend national meetings with scholarship funding. We feel this is important for education as well as exposure to broader arenas of education and professional development among peers. The majority of our graduates have chosen an academic career path with the minority servicing the regional community's Child Neurology needs. With the increasing concern of professional burnout, our program values and recognizes the importance of work-life balance and the necessity of wellness.
