Curriculum and Didactics

 

Clinical Curriculum

Pediatrics (PGY 1 and 2):

During your first and second years of training, you will spend time with general pediatrics. You will have a combination of inpatient wards/subspecialty services, NICU, PICU, elective months, and pediatric continuity clinic.

LSU Pediatrics

 

First Year Child Neurology (PGY 3):

Your first year of child neurology will consist of 12 months of rotations in adult neurology. Your call will always be at CHNOLA, even in your adult neurology year, to help integrate your child neurology experiences throughout your residency. 

  • Adult neurology inpatient rotation (5 blocks) at University Medical Center
  • Adult Neuro ICU (1 block) at West Jeff Medical Center
  • Outpatient Adult Neurology Clinic (3 blocks)
  • Electives (3 blocks) your choice of below
    • Neuroradiology
    • EEG
    • EMG
    • Neuromuscular
    • Movement
    • Multiple Sclerosis/Autoimmune
    • Headache
  • Continuity clinic and didactics every Wednesday at Children's Hospital

 

Second and Third Year Child Neurology (PGY 4 and 5):

  • Each year will have 6 months of inpatient and 6 months of outpatient
  • Outpatient rotations include:
    • Psychiatry
    • Epilepsy
    • Neuromuscular
    • Headache
    • Research
    • Radiology
    • Option to build your own elective such as genetics, psychology, ophthalmology, international rotation

 

Didactics Curriculum

Wednesday morning is your didactic and continuity clinic day. In the morning, we have morning report or radiology rounds at 8am followed by continuity clinic. In the afternoon, you will have didactics with one of our faculty members at 1pm and grand rounds or journal club at 2pm.

Friday mornings we have neuropathology with our pathologists which can include review of histology slides from patient cases or brain cutting.
