I would first like to extend a warm welcome to our new residents and prospective applicants. My name is De'Angellica Vaughn-Allen, and I grew up in the small rural town of Melville, Louisiana about 50 miles from Lafayette. I studied biology and chemistry with a minor in history at Xavier University of Louisiana and later attended LSU New Orleans School of Medicine. Prior to entering medical school, I taught 10th and 11th grade Mathematics and ACT prep courses as well as 5th-8th grade Mathematics and Special Eduacation.

When deciding where I wanted to continue my medical training, I had to opportunity to interview at many different programs. However, the program here in Lafayette stood out the most. The people, the culture, and the food made me feel as if I were a part of a family. I especially appreciated the dedication and care that the residents and faculty showed when taking care of their patients.

Being able to train close to home has provided me with the opportunity to grow as a medical professional while in a familiar and supportive environment.  I was born and raised in St. Landry parish so I have an intimate understanding of our patient population and their needs. Due to my experiences throughout residency, I am better able to deliver the right care, at the right time and in the right place, treating the whole patient by providing patient-centered healthcare. Being a part of this program will surely prepare you for the next steps of your medical journey.

I look forward to meeting and working with everyone and hope that you choose this program to continue to your medical education!
