Do the LSU Residency Programs participate in the Match?

Yes, applications should be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

 

Do I have to participate in the NRMP Match to enter your program?

Yes, the only way to enter the LSU General Surgery program is to apply through ERAS, and participate in the Match.

 

How many positions does your program offer?

General Surgery: Eleven Categorical and Nine Preliminary positions are offered in the PGY-1 Year.  

Plastic Surgery Integrated: Two positions offered annually.  

Vascular Surgery Integrated: Two positions offered annually.

 

Is research required? 

All residents are required to complete a research project by the end of their PGY-4 year. Dedicated time off for research is offered, but not required. 

 

What are the recommended USMLE scores for Step 1 and Step 2?

It is recommended that you pass Step 1 at first try and Step 2 is at least 245.
Note: You must pass USMLE Step 3 prior to entering your second year of residency.  We highly recommend that you take Step 3 during or shortly after your intern year.

 

Does your program accept IMGs as residents?

While highly unusual, both preliminary and categorical positions are occasionally offered to those IMGs who apply through the NRMP match.

 

What type of visas does your program sponsor?

Our programs do not sponsor any visas. The programs do approve J1 visas sponsored by ECFMG.

 

Does your program have a cut-off graduation year?

No, not at this time.
