Neurosurgery Residency Program

Third Year Medical Students

Surgery Subspecilaty Student Clerkship Guide: Neurosurgery

Career Planning Elective: Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery at LSUHSC offers clinical clerkships at both West Jefferson Medical Center and University Medical Center. The purpose of the clerkship is to provide 3rd year medical students with direct neurosurgical experience. The clerkship allows students to interact directly with faculty and residents and become an integral part of the neurosurgical team.

Third year medical students have the option of choosing Neurosurgery as one of their required 3-week surgical subspecialties or as a 2-week Career Planning Elective (CPE) rotation. Students interested in pursuing a neurosurgical residency are encouraged to enroll in either of these options and also schedule a meeting with the program director, Dr. Gabriel Tender for mentorship and guidance before 4th year. Should you have any questions of how to choose our rotation as a third year please contact Brooke Baltz at bbaltz@lsuhsc.edu or 504.568.6120.
