"Call me biased, but I truly believe we have one of the best programs—offering both exceptional clinical training and a vibrant life outside the hospital.
Our program is deeply committed to educational and clinical excellence. We’re given real autonomy in patient care, which fosters strong clinical judgment, while always having support readily available from approachable attendings and peers. For those interested in procedures, opportunities are abundant—from arterial lines and central lines to thoracenteses and lumbar punctures. Perhaps our greatest strength is our diverse patient population, which ensures exposure to a broad range of clinical pathophysiology and keeps our learning dynamic.
Equally special is the camaraderie among our residents. We’re a close-knit group that feels more like family than coworkers. The friendships and support we share are key to making residency not just manageable, but enjoyable. Whether working together or relaxing after hours, we genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
Living in Lafayette has been the perfect complement to training here. The city has a unique “big city, small town” feel—with great food, local charm, and year-round festivals. It’s a place where southern hospitality meets a strong sense of community.
I feel truly fortunate to have trained in a program that values both clinical excellence and personal connection. It’s an experience I’ll always be grateful for."

"What drew me to this program and what continues to stand out is the balance of strong clinical training and a truly supportive environment. The attendings are approachable and committed to teaching, and the diversity of pathology keeps us constantly learning new things. We have the kind of autonomy that pushes you to think independently while still knowing help is there when you need it. Being part of a close-knit group of residents makes the day-to-day more enjoyable, and I’ve especially valued the opportunity to mentor and teach our interns. Watching them gain confidence and find their footing has been one of the rewarding parts of residency. As an incoming chief resident, I've had the opportunity to reflect on how much I've grown during my time here and look forward to a fun, productive, and meaningful academic year."
