Advanced Emergency Medicine

The 1-month Advanced Emergency Medicine elective is designed for the senior medical students pursing a career in Emergency Medicine who seek to gain in-depth experience in the evaluation and management of critically-ill medical and trauma patients. Our aim is to provide students with an outstanding clinical exposure and high-quality educational experience. During the elective, visiting students will complete the following requirements:

  • Twelve 8-hour clinical shifts in the Emergency Department at University Medical Center
  • Dedicated Ultrasound and EMS shifts
  • Weekly didactic sessions and simulation labs
  • Residency and career advising provided by the Clerkship Leadership Team

Available Rotation Dates 2025

  • Block 1 July 7 - August 1
  • Block 2 August 4 - August 29
  • Block 3 September 2 - September 26
  • Block 4 September 29 - October 24

Applications will open in VSLO in early March 2025. Only students attending AAMC accredited medical schools are eligible. Regarding the application, the course number is “MED 420 – Emergency Medicine.” Please list Dr. Elizabeth Clement as Preceptor.

Student Housing

Application Process:

  • If interested in utilizing the student housing at LSU, contact the housing department via aehousing@lsuhsc.edu to confirm that you qualify for housing.
  • More information on student housing can be found on the LSU Housing Website
  • Complete the housing application found here. Note on the application that you are affiliated with the LSUHSC Medical School.

The student housing is only accessible with an LSUHSC ID Card which must be obtained in advance from the the Registrar’s Office. Without this ID Card you will be unable to move into student housing.
