Margaret Smith, LCSW-BACS, is a Clinical Instructor for the Family Medicine Residency Program, where she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role. A dedicated social worker, Margaret completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before advancing to Louisiana State University, where she earned her master's degree in social work and a certificate in gerontology.

Before joining the LSU Family Medicine team, Margaret served the Acadiana community in diverse areas of social work practice, including hospice, home health, oncology, and corrections. Her broad experience in these fields has equipped her with the skillset to be able to support residents and their patients with the unique psychosocial challenges faced within the primary care.

Margaret’s professional interests are centered on enhancing resident well-being, understanding the impact of social determinants of health, and promoting integrated behavioral health care models within primary care settings. Her dedication to these areas highlights her commitment to improving the holistic health of individuals and communities.

Outside of her professional life, Margaret enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, indulging in delicious food, and attending as many festivals as possible. Her personal interests reflect her love for community and celebration, underscoring the vibrant and compassionate approach she brings to her work and personal life.
