What advice would you give incoming residents?
For incoming residents, the most helpful advice I can give is that you can get good training pretty much anywhere. Factors that were important to me when I was deciding where to apply for residency were the following: Who are the people I am going to be working with? Can I see myself being happy in this program? Is the location near friends/family? Is this a place I would be happy to live in? Focusing on your happiness will allow you to be the best resident and future physician that you can be. My last piece of advice is to take advantage of the time before residency starts! Traveling (if covid permits), taking up new hobbies (I personally took up candlemaking), or brushing up on a language you've studied before are great ways to rest and recover from all of the hard work you have done in medical school.

What originally attracted you to the LSU Child/Adult Neurology program?
I originally fell in love with the Neurology programs at LSU because of the residents I met during medical school. They are all amazing and kind people with a huge passion for neuro. They took the time to help me learn and grow as a medical student and now as a physician. In addition, the attendings are very knowledgeable and approachable. It is very clear that they value their residents! Lastly, the LSU Neuro programs have a lot of outpatient exposure, which was important to me when I was applying to residency programs. I found other programs to be very inpatient heavy, but the reality is that the majority of neurologists practice in the outpatient setting.
