Psychotherapy at the LSU Baton Rouge C&A Fellowship program

 

             Philosophy

The LSU Baton Rouge Fellowship Program is committed to training fellows how to use evidence-based treatments shown to be effective with child/adolescent and family issues. We focus on parent-child interactive therapy, parent/child psychotherapy, cognitive and cognitive behavioral therapies (including trauma focused-CBT), psychodynamic therapy (including Mentalization therapy, schema-focused psychotherapy), program treatments such as dialectical behavioral therapy, multi-systemic therapy and functional family therapy, various family therapies and group therapy.

 

 

Seminars

Objectives:

  1. To become familiar with current evidence-based mental health treatments for children and adolescents;
  2. To learn specific treatment modalities for use in clinical practice;
  3. To learn the indications and contraindications regarding the use of the various types of psychotherapy.

 

Seminar topics (not necessarily in the order in which they will be presented)

  1. Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT): 15 sessions
  2. Parent-Child Psychotherapy (PCP): 10 sessions
  3. Multi-systemic Therapy (MST): 4 sessions
  4. Functional Family Therapy (FFT): 4 sessions
  5. Family therapy and parenting: 4 sessions
  6. Psychodynamic therapy: 10 sessions
  7. Cognitive therapy: 2 sessions
  8. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (including treatment of specific anxiety disorders): 10 sessions
  9. Interpersonal therapy for Adolescents (IPT-A): 3 sessions
  10. Play Therapy: 2 sessions
  11. Therapies addressing borderline personality disorder: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Schema-focused Therapy (SFT), Mentalization-based therapy (MBT-A): 5 sessions
  12. Substance Use treatment: 5 sessions
    1. Motivational Interviewing, relapse prevention
    2. ASAM levels of care (including medical necessity criteria for each)
  13. Trauma-focused therapy: 2 sessions
  14. Specific issues regarding the treatment of preschoolers, school age children and adolescents: 2 sessions
  15. Integration of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy: 1 session
  16. Supportive psychotherapy: 1 session
  17. Telepsychiatry in Child Psychiatry: 1 session
