Residency and Fellowship Programs

LSU Baton Rouge C&A fellowship

Message from the Fellowship Director

daltonI am very pleased to welcome you to the ACGME-accredited LSU Baton Rouge child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship program. Our program faculty members are very pleased you are interested in child and adolescent psychiatry and hope to have the opportunity to discuss with you our exciting program.

Our child and adolescent fellowship is a two year program focusing on child development, assessment of psychopathology, development of treatment plans and learning evidence-based treatments for infants, school-age children, adolescents and families. Our didactics and clinical rotations are designed to produce capable, knowledgeable, ethical and engaged child and adolescent psychiatrists who provide expert clinical services in multiple arenas and who develop skills necessary to teach, work collaboratively with patients, families and other medical and behavioral health providers and to pursue research interests.

We have developed multiple partnerships with local and state behavioral health providers that enhance our ability to offer a wide variety of clinical experiences that include not only training in evidence-based assessments and treatments for various age groups (parent-child interactive therapy, parent-child psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive therapy and CBT, MST, FFT, pharmacotherapy) but also in normal development, social determinants of health and other issues that impact wellbeing but are often not the focus of training.

We think that Baton Rouge and Louisiana offer unique cultural elements that will enhance your training experience. Our Cajun, African American, Creole, Southern and Spanish heritage offer a rich but unusual mixture of identities, cultures, foods and revelry that we are very proud of and that we celebrate at every opportunity.

We very much hope you will give us a chance to explain our approach to training and to consider training with us. We look forward to hearing from you.
