LSU Med/Peds Residency

In addition to three-year categorical programs in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, LSU offers a fully accredited four-year Medicine/Pediatrics program leading to board eligibility in both internal medicine and pediatrics. The LSU Med/Peds program, established in 1984, is seamless="seamless"ly integrated into both disciplines. The curriculum is divided evenly into alternating four-month rotations, and interns become upper-level residents after eight months of training in each specialty. The program provides a comprehensive, balanced experience that fulfills the stringent requirements of dually trained physicians. The Med/Peds curriculum not only emphasizes the importance of outpatient medicine but exposes residents to the wide range of disease processes that characterizes hospital-based care.

The goal of our program, one of the oldest in the country, is to provide a nurturing environment that fosters the intellectual and personal growth of each resident. We believe that independent thinking, flexibility, and diversity are crucial to the development of well balanced primary care physicians. Because we make the academic and personal needs of our residents a priority, we empower them to become competent, compassionate physicians who practice sound rational medicine for patients of all ages.
