The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center is committed to providing an excellent educational experience for residents while providing patient-centered medical care. Overall, the objectives of this program are to:
- Train residents to competently and independently practice general Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Train residents to serve in a primary care capacity, understanding the available screening tests, their timing, implementation and interpretation
- Provide mentorship for future academic pursuits and career goals
- Provide an understanding of all of the subspecialty areas in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Teach residents to read and interpret the scientific literature and understand how to devise a study design, collect and analyze data, and present their findings

***With the exception of the intern year, residents rotate to Lafayette, Louisiana. The second year residents spend 4 months in Lafayette for both obstetrical and gynecologic rotations at Lafayette General Medical Center and University Hospital & Clinics. The third years participate in gynecologic rotations at University Hospital & Clinics for a total of 2 months. The chief residents rotate at University Hospital & Clinics for a Gynecology rotation for a total of 2 months.***
