Rotation Sites

During our five year training program, we have the opportunity to train in multiple hospital settings across the city of New Orleans. This experience with academic, community, rural and private settings provides diverse exposure to health care practices and prepares our residents to be ready for any practice environment after graduation.

University Medical Center New Orleans

This is a state-of-the-art facility, which opened in 2015. It is home to many of our inpatient IM rotations including our wards services, a general medicine consult service, and a variety of subspecialty consult services (Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, and Nephrology). Our Medicien Clinic is also located on this campus. UMCNO's emergency department is where we undergo much of our EM training. It is the Level 1 Trauma Center in the greater New Orleans area, complete with 5 trauma rooms and 9 acute treatment rooms. The Emergency Department has 56 treatment rooms and 9 rapid treatment rooms. We enjoy a rich partnership with EMS in the area, especially with the New Orleans EMS Department.

The hospital has three separate inpatient towers with private rooms for all the patients. There are 19 operating rooms, as well as an electrophysiology lab, cardiac cath labs, and interventional radiology suite.

Touro Infirmary

Founded in 1852 and located in the heart of New Orleans, this community hospital lets our residents experience the community practice environment for hospitalists.  Touro also has an active Labor and Delivery unit where IM/EM residents can gain extra experience with pregnant patients and with deliveries.

Ochsner Kenner Medical Center

Ochsner Medical Center of Kenner is a community based hospital in Kenner, Louisiana, which provides inpatient Internal Medicine wards services, as well as subspecialty Internal Medicine rotations in Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, and Palliative Medicine. Similar to Touro Infirmary, rotations here allow our residents to experience community-based practice but with a different patient population than typically seen at UMCNO and Touro, allowing for varied experiences in types of hospital practices, patient populations, and disease pathology.

West Jefferson Medical Center

Located on the West Bank of New Orleans, our residents can experience the busy community ER life as well as rotations in dedicated rotations in Anesthesia and the Pediatric Emergency Department.

Slidell Memorial Hospital

Slidell Memorial Hospital is a Level 3 Trauma Center, which provides a community based private Emergency Medicine experience..

Children's Hospital of New Orleans

Children's Hospital is a dedicated pediatric facility in New Orleans, which provides rotations in Pediatric Emergency Medicine with Peds EM faculty as well as experience in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center

Our Lady of the Lake is a community-based hospital in Baton Rouge, the state capitol of Louisiana.  This facility features a large emergency medicine department with dedicated adult and pediatric divisions including a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.

Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center

Emergency Medicine rotations are a resident-favorite at this small, unassuming facility.  Located in Independence, Louisiana, Lallie Kemp provides a true rural Emergency Medicine experience.
