LSUHSC-Lafayette Department of Family Medicine Research and Scholarly Activity Requirements  

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Department of Family Medicine require that all Family Medicine Residents participate in research and scholarly activity projects.

All Residents are required to participate in a minimum of one quality improvement project during their training.

This requirement is intended to enhance the Resident's understanding of clinical practice and research methodology including; design, implementation, interpretation, and presentation of results. 

ACGME Requirements

(IV.D.3.a) Residents must participate in scholarship. ^(Core)

(IV.D.3.b) Residents should complete two scholarly activities, at least one of which should be a quality improvement project. ^(Outcome)

Department of Family Medicine Requirements

• Each Residency team is required to submit a scholarly activity project at least twice a year one of which being a QI/PI project.​
• The scholarly activity project must meet eligibility requirements for submission to a journal for publication or presentation at a local, regional, or national conference.​
• Residents can work as a team or individually and must have a Faculty Mentor/Sponsor.​
• 100% participation is required for Residents and Faculty, no exceptions.
