LSU Sports Medicine Fellowship
University Hospital & Clinics, Lafayette, LA
Our Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship parallels the mission of UHC/LSU in its outstanding efforts in patient care, education and research. The goal is to offer the fellows clinical experience in the recognition and management of musculoskeletal injuries while directly extending needed services to UHC’s patient population. The fellows will be a resource for direct resident and student teaching and supervision in sports medicine and general family medicine. The fellows will gain broad exposure to sports medicine including the following: injury prevention strategies, injury evaluation, diagnosis, and restoration of function through rehabilitation or surgical means. The fellows are exposed to athletic coverage at the professional, collegiate and high school level. The curriculum consists of: a formal academic education consisting of weekly conferences and didactic teaching, and research opportunity is available for both clinical and basic science. We can offer a two-week rotation to 4th year medical students with the primary care sports medicine service. First and third year residents are scheduled for a rotation in Orthopedic and Sports Medicine as a component of the Family Medicine curriculum and occurs during the first two weeks of August through December and March through June.
