APPLICATION & INTERVIEW PROCESS
Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS [http://www.aamc.org/audienceeras.htm]). We require a score of at least 75 on Step 1 and 2. Year of graduation is not considered. We accept J-1 visas only. Previous US clinical experience is not required. Our application deadline is December 31st, and applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
A complete application consists of:
- ERAS Application
- Photograph
- Personal Statement
- Medical School Transcript
- Dean’s Letter
- USMLE or COMLEX Scores
- 3 Letters of Recommendation including one from the Chair of Internal Medicine
Applicants are judged on academic qualifications, clinical ability and preparedness, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. Our resident selection criteria conform to the guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME [acgme.org]) outlined in the ACGME Institutional Requirements. Our program does not discriminate with regard to sex, age, religion, color, national origin, disability or veteran status.
All housestaff must meet and maintain the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners requirements for a permit/intern card for physicians in training or unrestricted medical license.
Interview Information
Interviews are scheduled for the month of January. If an applicant requires a December interview date, accommodations will be made. The typical interview day includes:
- Attendance at morning report
- 3 faculty interviews including 1 with the Program Director
- A tour of off-site training locations such as the Baton Rouge General Hospital – Bluebonnet Campus
- Attendance at noon conference with lunch provided
- Tour of Earl K. Long Medical Center
- Wrap-up with Chief Residents
An informal dinner with current housestaff will be offered to all candidates the evening before or the day of a scheduled interview.
Hotel accommodations are available for one night for those applicants traveling a significant distance to interview. A hotel confirmation number will be e-mailed to you several weeks prior to your interview. If you are unable to attend the interview, please notify us a minimum of 72 hours in advance so we may cancel your reservation.
