COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

COMPENSATION

Resident salary lines are determined by the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – Health Care Services Division. As of July 1, 2008 the salaries are as follows:

  • PGY 1    $44,168
  • PGY 2    $45,467
  • PGY 3    $47,125

BENEFITS

Vacation:  Interns are entitled to 21 days (including weekends) of non-cumulative vacation leave per year.

Upper level housestaff are entitled to 28 days (including weekends) of non-cumulative vacation leave per year.

Health Insurance:  Housestaff are eligible to enroll in the State employees’ health insurance or State managed health care options through Employee Benefits or LSUHSC Resident health insurance.

Disability Insurance:  Long term basic disability insurance is provided to housestaff at no cost with the opportunity to enroll in additional disability insurance policies. 

Other Benefits:  Housestaff are eligible to enroll in other programs which include dental, life, vision, cafeteria plan (pre-tax deductions of certain insurance premiums), deferred compensation (tax deferred savings and investments), tax sheltered annuities, direct deposit, tax saver flexible spending accounts, U.S. savings bonds, etc.

Malpractice Insurance:  The State of Louisiana provides professional liability coverage to housestaff.
